Booking A/B Tested And Rolled Out An Expanded Calendar Control

Leak #6 from Booking.com/apartments   |   Apr 22, 2019 Home & Landing

This leaked experiment captures a very simple and isolated change on Booking's apartment landing page. The tested change was the automatic exposure of the calendar menu instead of keeping it collapsed (requiring an extra click to open the date picker). A few weeks later, the experiment was observed to have been completed with the exposed calendar version (B) as implemented.

Highlighted UI Changes From This Leak

  1. Auto Expanded Calendar Menu

The B variation with the auto expanded calendar was implemented at the end of this experiment. Perhaps the B version is inviting the an important action of expressing dates with greater visibility and lower effort. We'll take this as evidence in favor of the Exposed Menu Options pattern.

0.5 Repeatability has been assigned to Pattern #14: Exposed Menu Options as evidence that it's getting better

Repeatability is a net count of evidence for or against a pattern. It’s how we can predict which patterns are better than others. :)
